Some say it's disheartening to see your enemy smile back at you.. it must be agonizing for my enemies.. they can do anything.. and I will still be smiling.
[First of all I would like to apologize for the crap color job on the left.. it's 6:14 AM and I decided to just sorta finish whatever I could while the idea was still fresh in my head.]
Got an idea in my head and decided to doodle it up since the design looked really imposing in my head, and it translated pretty well to Photoshop.
Recognize the smiley on his swords, if you do you have earned a cookie. It serves as a standing symbol for the "resistance" faction of the first northern mobian Civil War... obviously not a real event but one I like to think about from time to time and use as story fuel.
Overall, Schism isn't all that strong or fast, he's lightning quick, very dangerous in close quarters. His bent sabers while short are effective when used together because they can block an opponents slash, but on top of that, the blocker can do a multitude of things, the design means that pushing forward would give the user leverage, possibly stabbing straight forward, OR the other weapon can be used while the first preoccupies the opponent's weapon, meaning it's essentially a free strike.
While imposing and fairly scary looking, he's not a bad dude at all.. when out of the suit there's nothing that suggests he's much of a threat to anyone, and even when in battle.. the first priority is incapacitation.. it's not as easy to pull off but the long term repercussions aren't so bad for someone really superstitious about the fact that killing will come back and bite you with some nasty karma in the long haul.. but sometimes in war that's just kind of unavoidable.
The suit he wears is used both to intimidate and conceal. The hood has been fitted with a dark mesh that doesn't affect eyesight too badly but keeps the wearer concealed, and in dark enough areas opponents would only see his torn and stitched bandanna smile. The three capes attached to his belt represent Nature and everything natural, balance (Green) / Disruption and Pain, the blood of war (Red) / Peace and Remembrance, wishing the souls of the fallen on any side a safe journey to sanctuary (Blue).
The only hint to his identity are his grey/blue/highlit green ears and shoulderblades that poke out of the cloth, the mesh blocks most of a cool breeze to the face, so the ears get to enjoy that luxury on their own. And for anyone wondering, he is a hedgehog.. he butchered his quills with the sabers to be able to fit his head into the hood and mesh.. so that's another appearance hint.. look for some blue/green/grey dude with a hell of a haircut. Not the best fashion idea ever.. but I think it's helped me make a greater statement than I otherwise could have pulled off.
