gaaaaaawd man, you know how much I love this one. The one thing that really makes it stand out to me is his feet touching the floor and all the lines coming out from under them. It makes him look authoritative and super badass.
As for the colors... I love all the different shades of blue and his orange markings. I cannot even begin to describe how much I adore his gloves and shoes; and of course, the fuzzy cuffs They all look really complex and detailed, and I can tell you put a lot of effort into 'em.
The background is pretty epic as well. The repeated binary is fantastic. That, and of course it reminds me of Digital Sea. So even better
Nice blue swirly thingy of light too. Stellar will have to try that out sometime. Maybe Nova can give him some tips without killing him? XD
YAY COMMENT #100!! (my first to reach this in quite awhile )
And there's nothin to a "villain" or imposing figure if he doesn't look authoritative and super badass. x3
I'm happy that you love the colors, if I had made a failed scheme then the character would have failed as well, I always thought to choose the best colors to agree with eachother and the design would always lead to at least a respectable character, not that you would know it since he's usually in that armor. I tried to improve on my first design of his shoes a bit and the gloves to me were good as they were which was nice. And the fuzziness.. see that's how he draws ya in one second he's a pillow and the next.. CLANK. And yeah, I really wanted everything looking pretty nice since I don't do nearly enough work to do him justice, in or out of his metal case.
You've mentioned that you liked the background, the old binary code thing works and fits and that's good enough for me. Happy it reminded ya of that song too though. ^^
"Be mesmerized by my holographic orb of.." *nose flicked*
Yeah, just as it is for roller coasters, I imagine it's difficult trying to come up with a color scheme that looks great and fits the character. The markings help a lot to bring the orange out. And of course the orange bits on his shoes look awesome. It all goes together so well.
I'm happy ya like it, and yeah I have gotten that before. The main reason is probably all the fur around the chest and shoulders, the quillsplosion is slightly reminiscent of his "quill crest" as well I suppose if you look really hard. I basically gave reasons as to explain the fur e.t.c. as I like to distance myself from too many character similarities but I suppose a slight resemblance won't kill me. XD
Thanks a lot, and I really try to make things as slick and smooth as possible.
My saying "The bigger the canvas, the higher the potential."
The bigger sizes you work in, the more flexability you have and more smoothly everything will turn out, this is true both traditionally (I LOVE poster board) and Digitally (6000x6000 Photoshop CS2 canvas at least for me.)
Well my good man, what can be said about this kick ass picture that hasn't already been said?
I knew from when you first showed me the sketch that this was going to turn out great. The proportions were perfect and you draw poses so damn well.
Then came the amazing coloring. Nova has such eye catching colors and his markings are very unique and work so well. Love the gloves and his fuzzy bits too.
I don't know if it's just me, but some of the shading looks a bit off on some of the spines. Just gives a strange interpretation of the light direction with the shading being on the top of some of the spines. Overall it looks fantastic though. Brilliant work.
No one has offered me 5 bucks yet for making it.. you could always do that! <3
Anyways.. I'm happy ya like it man, I have always turned to you as one critic of my pre-release work because I trust your artistic judgment ( even if you don't ) And to see ya liking it even before completion helps build a lot of confidence.
Of course you love the gloves and fuzz (especially the fuzz) because the fuzz be irresistible, why else do you think everyone loved Cousin IT so much (Adams Family.)
And I chose the light orb in his hand to be the light focal point, judging on the depth, curves and location of the points on the body I tried to shade as accordingly to correspond with that source. The shoes were basically completely illuminated by that and the lights on the shoes themselves, really limiting most shading opportunities down there. But thanks for bringing that up. ^^
